This and That

Well, the news of the week is Frankie Marallo's grandson is now home from the hospital to join his new family. The little one had to catch up on some growth and other things before they would let him join his new family. Today the family celebrates his homecoming!

Rett Vincent and his wife have finally made the transition to Ohio. God bless your new diggs Rett.

As for me, I am getting ready for a trip to Nashville. I love music... give me some of that old time rock 'n roll, some blues or funky old soul... and add in some contemporary Christian and hip hop as well.

When we were young, there was only one music chart and everything was on it. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford, the Eagles, Creedence Clearwater, Lynard Skynard, Alabama, would all be considered country or southern rock today. Well, ever since American Idol Season 5 in 2006, a special guy from North Carolina touched my heart--Bucky Covington--there was something about him. I got this impression to pray for him and I have been a fan for the first time in my life (other than Paul McCartney for a few months at age 13). So, I have started listening to a little more country and southern rock since that is what he sings.

I will be traveling to Nashville to see Bucky in concert. He has taken the Country Music scene by storm with his first CD. His first hit single will take you back to our childhood when we remember it being a totally different world than today. At our age, we can relate to every single line in the song including drinking from the garden hose, saying the Pledge of Allegience and praying in school, to all the stores being closed on Sunday.
Here is picture of me giving Bucky some love.

Bucky was recently part of a live radio event and a friend of mine took the attached video. Listen to A Different World, by Bucky Covington (there are other videos you can watch of him when it is done). Keep your eyes and ears out for this guy-- he will be around for a long time.

On a final note, Frankie Marallo's new grandson has been growing by leaps and bounds since his recent birth. He is still in the hospital but will be going home soon to be gather up all the loving his family has been waiting to pour all over him. Thank God for our blessings and glad the new little football player will be heading home shortly!

Crossing Classes

First I have to say, Oz -- great event and wish I was there. By the way, the view counter is very helpful to know people are actually reading this stuff LOL but people are a little shy to post or just don't know how.

Second, I want to say -- Way to Go OZ -- your Cheetah girl is kicking butt on Dancing with the Stars! If anyone doesn't know, and it isn't confidential so I think it is ok to share, Oz directed Cheetah Girls and he actually was in the film for a crowd scene.

ok, now, third and why I originally came to post.
Last weekend I actually got to get together with a few girls who have been trying to make a day of it for about a year now. Long, long, ago, and far, far, away... sorry, LOL I digress, ummm many years ago a bunch of MVHS alumni found ourselves attending the same church -- the Mission Church in Carmel, NY. In fact, there were about 8 or 10 guys and girls from several MVHS classes of the 60's. God had changed all of our lives and we each had been drawn to this Christian church and into each others lives.

As time goes on, people move around and lives change. So, after all these years, a few of us decided to go back to Mission Church and visit with several that still attended and spend the day together. It was great to see the girls that came. We stayed for service and then went out for lunch. You may or may not know the girls that went - but you may know Eileen DeNisco Gisen (MVHS 1967) (wife of Arthur Gisen MVHS 1967); Jeanne DiPasquale Galvano Sparks (went to Spellman -- former wife of Robin Galvano (deceased) MVHS 1965; and wife of Billy Sparks MVHS 1965); Lynn Catapano D'Apice (MVHS 1966).

It is great to get together with old friends and those from good Ole Mt. Vernon from the days that we will treasure in our hearts.

Oz Scott's Jackie Robinson Foundation Concert

Sept. 15th we had the 2nd Annual Jackie Robinson Foundation Jazz On The Grass event in our backyard. Sold out crowd of 450 people. Great time, great vibe, great music. Marcus Miller on bass was awesome and Lalah Hathaway, Donny Hathaway's daughter, singing with Marcus was great. Dave Koz couldn't help himself and he jumped in to jam with them. We had a surprise guest with Jeffrey Osborne singing. And then Brian McKnight singing a duet with Kenny Rankin. And of course I couldn't help jumping in to grab the mike, no I didn't sing. My next door neighbor David Abramowitz class of MVHS '66 was sitting right up front. And Kimberly Sizemore was there as well. So MVHS was represented. That picture up top is a picture of Kenny Rankin probably wanting me to get off the stage. And here is a picture of my family. And sitting right up front in the crowd with his lovely wife Randi is David Abramowitz.
